First Ladies of the United States

Believe it or not, 'First Lady' is not a term that has ever been formally defined by the government of the United States. Typically, the title belongs to the President's wife, but when the President is divorced, unmarried, or widowed, the title can fall to a sister, cousin, or daughter.
