For the words sung in his Ninth Symphony, Beethoven used 36 lines from Friedrich Schiller's "An die Freude" (Ode to Joy), about a third of the entire poem. Beethoven mixed these verses around a little, with some repetitions, and added a short prose recitative to the front. This quiz asks for all the words used in the symphony, in the order they are first sung but without repeats. (Note: Some of Schiller's more creative compound words are rendered as two separate words in the quiz.)
