The Battle of Tsushima took place on the 27–28th May 1905 and was fought between Tōgō Heihachirōof of Japan and Zinovy Petrovich Rozhestvensky of Russia. Tsushima was the only decisive sea battle fought by modern battleship fleets and the first naval battle in which wireless telegraphy played an important role. The battle has been labelled the "dying echo of the old era". Following an 18,000 mile voyage, two thirds of the Russian fleet was destroyed by the Japanese Navy.
