- The Battle of the Strait of Otranto was fought in the Adriatic Sea on 12th November 1940. Although it was a minor naval action, it was the first British night attack on an Italian convoy and foreshadowed how deadly the British would become. Force X, led by Pridham-Wippell ran into an Italian convoy led by De Angelis & Barbini and sank all the merchant ships and damaged the Torpedo Boat escort for no loss. The following day a massive hunt for Force X, involving 5 cruisers, proved unsuccessful.
