  • The Battle of Más a Tierra was fought on 14th March 1915 near the Chilean island of Más a Tierra between a small British naval squadron and a German light cruiser - the last remnant of the German East Asia Squadron. The German ship, in need of resupply & repair, was hiding in neutral waters for protection. However the British, who cracked the German codes, found, attacked and sank the ship (or forced its scuttling). Apart from commerce raiders, German strength in the Pacific was now destroyed.
