The Battle of Lake Baikal was fought on the 16th August 1918 between the Czechoslovak Legion and the Red Army. The battle was for control of the lake and the mountain passes around it, which all were under the control of the Red Army. They therefore could potentially land troops behind Czechoslovak lines. On the 16th, the Legion bombarded Mysova, sinking a Soviet ships and destroying the harbour without loss. The battle is likely the only naval battle ever undertaken by Czechoslovak forces.
