More Info:
  • The Battle of Cape Matapan was fought between the 27-29 March 1941 between a British and Australian fleet led by Andrew Cunningham and an Italian fleet led by Angelo Iachino. One of the more decisive battles in the Mediterranean, Cape Matapan (the last fleet action fought by the Royal Navy) demonstrated advances in British intelligence services and failings in their Axis counterparts. The advantages of radar, which the Italians did not use, were also pressed home in a convincing Allied victory.
