The Battle of Calabria was a large, evenly matched, but indecisive battle fought on 9th July 1940 between Cunningham's Allied fleet and Campioni's Italian fleet. Calabria included some of the longest-range naval salvoes in history, showcasing the quality of British gunnery and the failings of the Italians. A few Italian ships needed to refuel/had mechanical faults and were escorted away by several destroyers, but reinforcements arrived from Taranto and it is unclear which Italian ships fought.
