Before Robert Downey Jr. became Tony Stark, Paramount had him as their first choice. However, he was too busy with franchises like Mission: Impossible to accept.
Patty Jenkins of Wonder Woman fame had been attached to direct this MCU film. However, creative differences, namely wanting a Romeo and Juliet-esque tone, caused her to drop out.
Early drafts of Guardians of the Galaxy did not include him for fears of being too cartoonish. He was thankfully put in and got to let the fur fly.

Endgame originally featured a scene of Tony meeting an older version of her played by Katherine Langford after snapping. It was cut due to audiences finding it confusing.
She was at least considered to play Janet Van Dyne/Wasp, which would've meant Michael Douglas would've been searching for his actual wife.
Marvel wanted to kill this character in the first Guardians of the Galaxy, but they kept her alive due to sequel potential. Karen Gillan should be relieved by that decision.
Emily Blunt was the first choice to play this Avenger, but she turned it down to do Gulliver's Travels instead. Whoops.
The origin story written for him included him being a circus performer fighting alongside the villains. He was thankfully remade into a family man who's really good with a bow.
The Russos have stated that had Marvel owned the rights to X-Men by Infinity War, he would have been the team's only survivor of the Snap. Way to go, Hugh Jackman?
Rick Moranis was offered a cameo for this movie in which the titular hero would invoke Honey, I Shrunk the Kids by falling into his Cheerios.
This group of heroes were originally set to have their own MCU film, but they got downgraded to ABC tv show/massive flop instead.
