The player qualifies at a position and league if they played most of their games at that position and in that league. For example Nomar played 567 games from 2000 to 2009. 292 games were in the NL and 275 were in the AL. 114 games were played as an AL SS and 91 as a DH. In the NL he played 99 at 1B, 98 games at 3B and 95 games at SS. So Nomar qualifies as an NL 1Bman and all of his total bases in the NL (while playing any position) from 2000-2009 are considered.
