Each of the 50 U.S. States has one school represented. If a major university in that state has a state nickname in the schools name, that school was chosen. Many states have more than one nickname. Two of many of Maryland's state nicknames are 'The Oyster State' and "The Chesapeake State". So, if there were teams known as the Maryland Tech Oysters OR the Chesapeake University Pirates, either would qualify as a valid answer on this quiz - even if the names were modified to the Oysties or Chesie U One more real example, if I used Wisconsin's Marquette Golden Eagles and Wisconsin had a nickname as the Golden State, Eagle State, Golden Eagle State or land of Marquette that would count as a correct answer. If the school was the Louisiana Crocs and Louisiana was the Crocodile State, as Croc is a common shortening for Crocodile, that would also be a correct answer. If Louisiana was the Alligator State or the Reptile State, that would not be a correct answer.
