The scene in which Marge meets with Mike Yanagita is jarring and out of place
The movie has multiple endings, and the one it finally chooses to end on (Sam returning to his family) is not the most satisfying one
The parts not involving chariot racing are slowly paced, and Charlton Heston is wooden in the title role
The dialogue isn't terribly sharp and the racial politics/Old South mythologizing have aged very badly
The pugilistic main character is so incredibly unlikable that it can be hard to care what happens to him
The multiple chronologies don't gel well together, particularly in comparison to the narrative drive of the original
The ending (Tommy Lee Jones describing a dream) is rambling and unsatisfying
The comic relief scenes, in the middle of what is otherwise a very bleak Western, are an unwelcome distraction from the main plot
The human characters aren't developed well, it's dull, and it doesn't make much sense: why is Dave in a 19th century bedroom at the end?
Marlon Brando is too overweight and disinterested to truly essay the power-mad Colonel Kurtz
The final act - everything after Anderton is put in prison - is far too optimistic, and only makes sense if interpreted as a dream
The 'sonar' device that allows our caped hero to find anyone in the city is a bit of a deus ex machina
The serial killer antagonist being bisexual and transgender undermines the positive feminism of the film
The psychiatrist's long explanation of Norman's psychology is a complete violation of the 'show, don't tell' rule of cinema
The film's often comedic treatment of the Holocaust isn't appropriate for such a grave event
The pace is slow, Jack seems crazy from the start, and terrifying events occur at random rather than due to any internal logic
The framing device doesn't make any sense because no one would have been able to hear the title character's last words
The movie glosses over the unsavory aspects of its mathematician protagonist, including fathering a child out of wedlock and antisemitism
The movie does not condemn the actions of its amoral stockbrokers, nor does it show the damage they inflict
Couldn't they both have fit on the door?
