States that touch at a single point are not considered bordering (i.e. Arizona does NOT border Colorado, and New Mexico does NOT border Utah). This follows the standard definition of "border" in mathematics (topology).
Only land borders are used.
The colors are purely decorative / do not mean anything.
Beware that the map depicts ONLY bordering relationships, not relative position in space.
