A "breakpoint" is a location referred to by meteorologists when issuing tropical storm and hurricane watches, warnings, or advisories, for specific areas that need to be warned of an impending weather event. They are typically defined by the name of a place or town on the coast, by a geographic feature, or by some combination of latitude and longitude. The U.S. National Weather Service designates the locations along the U.S. East, Gulf, and California coasts, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii.
