Aargh’s clue tells us that there is only one other parrot in the first row, and that it is either blue or violet. The only parrot adjacent to Harties is red, so neither Barnacles, Cannons or Deadly can have parrots.
No column has more than three parrots (Deadly’s clue). In the fifth column, we know that Eyepatch must have a parrot (since there is one other parrot in the first row). Jolly also has a parrot (Cannon’s clue), and either Terror or Zize has a parrot as well (Barnacles clue). This means Overboard cannot have a parrot.
Waters does not have a parrot (Overboard’s clue), and she tells us Isle has a parrot only if Fearless and Pegleg both have parrots. Isle cannot have a parrot, since there can be no more than three parrots per row (Deadly’s clue). Harties has a parrot, and we know Jolly does as well (Cannon’s clue). If Isle had a parrot, then Fearless must as well, which would total four parrots in the second row.
Maroon is adjacent to two more parrots that Isle (Isle’s clue). Isle is adjacent to at least three parrots – Harties’, Jolly’s and Eyepatch’s. This means that Maroon must be adjacent to five parrots, which is most he can be adjacent to. He is adjacent to Harties’, and will also be adjacent to the second red parrot. Harties clue tells us that one out of Golden, Landho, Maroon or Nasty has that parrot, but the others cannot have a parrot. This means that Quarrels, Roger and Silver must each have a parrot. Since there can be no more than three parrots in a row (Deadly’s clue), neither Pegleg nor Terror can have parrots. Since Terror does not have a parrot, Zize must have the pink parrot. (Barnacles clue).
Neither Maroon nor Nasty can have the second red parrot, as that would make Isle adjacent to four pirates with parrots, and there is no way for Maroon to be adjacent to six parrots. This means both Maroon and Nasty have no parrot, since we determined that only one out of Maroon, Nasty, Landho, and Golden can have one.
Waters is adjacent to parrots in three colors. (Overboard’s clue). These must be violet, blue and yellow, since the one pink parrot has already been placed, and we know she cannot be adjacent to the second red parrot. There are only two blue parrots (Zize’s clue), and one of them already belongs to Aargh. The other must be adjacent to Waters. This means that Eyepatch must have violet parrot (Aargh’s clue).
Since Jolly and Quarrels have the same color parrot (Cannon’s clue), they both must have a violet parrot. (The pink parrot has already been placed, there is only one other red parrot, there is only one other blue parrot, and Maroon says he is not adjacent to any yellow parrots.).
Quarrels tells us that there are only two pirates with parrots in his column. He is one of them, and the other must be either Golden or Landho, who has the second red parrot (Harties’ clue). This means Victory cannot have a parrot.
Victory is adjacent to a blue parrot (Victory’s clue), and we know that Waters must be as well (Overboard’s clue). There is only one other blue parrot, so they are adjacent to the same pirate. The only one they are both adjacent to is Roger, so he has the blue parrot.
We know that Silver must have a parrot (since Maroon is adjacent to five parrots). It cannot be blue or pink, since all of the birds of that color have been placed, and cannot be red since the only other red parrot is adjacent to Harties. Maroon is not adjacent to any yellow parrots (Maroon’s clue), so Silver’s parrot must be violet.
Yargh must have a yellow parrot, as Waters is adjacent to birds in three colors. She is already adjacent to blue and violet birds, and cannot be adjacent to pink or red (since the pink parrot has already been placed and the red parrot belongs to either Landho or Golden).
Yargh’s clue tells us that there are three times that two pirates with the same color parrot are next to each other. Eyepatch and Jolly are one, and Harties and either Golden or Landho will be the second. The third pair must have yellow parrots. (All the blue, violet and pink parrots have already been placed (Jolly’s clue told us there were only four violet parrots), and there is only one other red parrot.)
Neither Golden nor Landho can have a yellow parrot (Harties clue), so the only two adjacent pirates that can have yellow parrots are Fearless and Killer.
Since there can be no more than three parrots in a row or column (Deadly’s clue), neither Unknown nor Golden can have a parrot. This means that Landho must have the red parrot.
