Captain America’s childhood best friend is the Winter Soldier

The ‘angry green character’ is the Hulk; Gamora is the green lady and her sister is Nebula

At the beginning, Iron Man and Captain America are given to us:

Iron Man
Captain America

IRON MAN: I share my entire diagonal with my team from Civil War. Column B is entirely female.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: I share my entire diagonal with my team from Civil War. The two warriors in the airport battle named after bugs share a column and are adjacent.

Remember:

Iron Man’s Team: Black Panther, Black Widow, Spider-Man, War Machine, Vision

Captain America’s Team: Ant Man, Falcon, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Winter Soldier

Iron Man also tells us that Column B is entirely female – there are only 2 women on both teams, so Scarlet Witch has to go in B5 and Black Widow has to go in B2.

Iron ManFemale Ant Man, Falcon, Hawkeye or Winter Soldier
Black Widow Ant Man, Falcon, Hawkeye or Winter Soldier
FemaleBlack Panther, Spider-Man, War Machine or VisionAnt Man, Falcon, Hawkeye or Winter Soldier
FemaleAnt Man, Falcon, Hawkeye or Winter SoldierBlack Panther, Spider-Man, War Machine or Vision
Scarlet Witch Black Panther, Spider-Man, War Machine or Vision
Captain AmericaFemale Black Panther, Spider-Man, War Machine or Vision

Captain America tells us that the two warriors named after bugs – Spider-Man and Ant Man – share a column and are adjacent. This means they can only go in C3 and C4 OR D4 and D3 respectively.

Iron ManFemale Falcon, Hawkeye or Winter Soldier
Black Widow Falcon, Hawkeye or Winter Soldier
FemaleBlack Panther, Spider-Man, War Machine or VisionAnt Man, Falcon, Hawkeye or Winter Soldier
FemaleAnt Man, Falcon, Hawkeye or Winter SoldierBlack Panther, Spider-Man, War Machine or Vision
Scarlet Witch Black Panther, War Machine or Vision
Captain AmericaFemale Black Panther, War Machine or Vision

BLACK WIDOW: Falcon and War Machine share a column and are adjacent

SCARLET WITCH: I share my row with Vision.

Let’s start with the Scarlet Witch’s clue – the only square in her row that shares a diagonal with Iron Man is E5, so Vision is in E5.

Iron ManFemale Falcon, Hawkeye or Winter Soldier
Black Widow Falcon, Hawkeye or Winter Soldier
FemaleBlack Panther, Spider-Man, War MachineAnt Man, Falcon, Hawkeye or Winter Soldier
FemaleAnt Man, Falcon, Hawkeye or Winter SoldierBlack Panther, Spider-Man, War Machine
Scarlet Witch Vision
Captain AmericaFemale Black Panther, War Machine

Black Widow also tells us that Falcon and War Machine share a column and are adjacent. So, like Spider-Man and Ant Man, they can only go in C4 and C3 OR D3 and D4 respectively. So those four squares – C3, C4, D3 and D4 – are some combination of Ant Man, Spider-Man, Falcon and War Machine. This only leaves Black Panther to go in F6.

Iron ManFemale Hawkeye or Winter Soldier
Black Widow Hawkeye or Winter Soldier
FemaleSpider-Man or War MachineAnt Man or Falcon
FemaleAnt Man or FalconSpider-Man or War Machine
Scarlet Witch Vision
Captain AmericaFemale Black Panther

VISION: Spider-Man is adjacent to one teammate with ‘black’ in their superhero name.

Since Spider-Man can’t be adjacent to Black Panther (as he must be in C3 or D4), he must be adjacent to Black Widow in C3. This also means that Ant Man must be in C4, in order to share his column. This leaves Falcon in D3 and War Machine in D4.

Iron ManFemale Hawkeye or Winter Soldier
Black Widow Hawkeye or Winter Soldier
FemaleSpider-ManFalcon
FemaleAnt ManWar Machine
Scarlet Witch Vision
Captain AmericaFemale Black Panther

SPIDER-MAN: Captain America and his childhood friend are as far apart as possible

ANT MAN: There are no women outside Column B

FALCON: Loki is adjacent to both the Mind Stone and his brother

WAR MACHINE: Jane Foster is adjacent to Thor

Whew! That’s a lot of information! Let’s start with the easy stuff. Winter Soldier (Bucky Barnes) must be in F1, as Captain America’s childhood friend. That also let’s us place Hawkeye in E2.

Iron ManFemale Winter Soldier
Black Widow Hawkeye
FemaleSpider-ManFalcon
FemaleAnt ManWar Machine
Scarlet Witch Vision
Captain AmericaFemale Black Panther

We also know that Jane Foster must be in Column B (Ant Man’s clue tells us she can’t be anywhere else), adjacent to Thor and the Reality Stone. Loki must also be adjacent to Thor (his brother) and the Mind Stone. We don’t know enough to place them for now, but we do have two more clues!

WINTER SOLDIER: The male Guardians of the Galaxy have a diagonal entirely to themselves, Star Lord is adjacent to Gamora.

HAWKEYE: Gamora is in B6.

Let’s break down the Winter Soldier’s clue.

There are four male Guardians of the Galaxy: Star Lord, Rocket, Groot and Drax. In order for them to have a diagonal entirely to themselves, they need a diagonal only 4 squares long. On the 6×6 board, there are four options:

Iron ManFemale Winter Soldier
Black Widow Hawkeye
FemaleSpider-ManFalcon
FemaleAnt ManWar Machine
Scarlet Witch Vision
Captain AmericaFemale Black Panther

We know that it can’t be the orange or the blue diagonal, because those both contain a female character, and the four sharing the diagonal are all male. This leaves the purple and green diagonals as options.

Now, Hawkeye tells us that Gamora is in B6. The second part of the Winter Soldier’s clue tells us that she is also adjacent to Star Lord, one of the Guardians. The only diagonal left with a square adjacent to her is the green one, so the four male Guardians of the Galaxy must be in those squares, with Star Lord in C6.

Iron ManFemale Winter Soldier
Black Widow Hawkeye
FemaleSpider-ManFalcon Drax, Groot or Rocket
FemaleAnt ManWar MachineDrax, Groot or Rocket
Scarlet Witch Drax, Groot or RocketVision
Captain AmericaGamoraStar Lord Black Panther

GAMORA: There are no tree forms or racoons in Column F

STAR LORD: Vision is adjacent to the Mind Stone

Gamora tells us that neither Groot (a tree form) nor Rocket (a raccoon) can be in Column F, leaving only Drax in F3.

Iron ManFemale Winter Soldier
Black Widow Hawkeye
FemaleSpider-ManFalcon Drax
FemaleAnt ManWar MachineGroot or Rocket
Scarlet Witch Groot or RocketVision
Captain AmericaGamoraStar Lord Black Panther

Now, let’s break down Star Lord’s clue.

Vision must be adjacent to the Mind Stone. There are 4 empty adjacent spots: F4, F5, E6 and D6.

But we have to take into account other clues, namely:

Ant Man tells us that no women are outside Column B, so Jane Foster has to be in Column B.

Falcon tells us that Loki is adjacent to the Mind Stone and Thor

War Machine tells us that Jane is adjacent to Thor as well.

So, to sum up: Vision is adjacent to the Mind Stone, which is adjacent to Loki, who is adjacent to Thor, who is adjacent to Jane – who must be in Column B.

Given that Vision is in Column E and Jane must be in Column B, the Mind Stone cannot be in the final column – any route connecting the other links in the chain would be too long:

Black Widow Hawkeye
FemaleSpider-ManFalcon Drax
FemaleAnt ManWar MachineGroot or Rocket

FemaleAnt ManWar MachineGroot or RocketSTONE
Scarlet Witch Groot or RocketVision
Captain AmericaGamoraStar Lord Black Panther

So the Mind Stone cannot be in F4 or F5. Nor can it be in D6. If it were, then Loki would have to be in C5, where it would be impossible to be adjacent to Thor, or in E6, where – again – the chain could not end with Jane in Column B

So, the Mind Stone can only be placed in E6, with Loki in D6, Thor in C5 and Jane Foster in B4.

MIND STONE: Rocket is adjacent to the Power Stone

JANE FOSTER: Not all of the infinity stones are in the quiz, but the ones that are do not share a ‘line of sight’

THOR: I share my row with the Reality Stone and my column with the Time Stone

Let’s start with the Mind Stone’s clue. Rocket, as previously determined, could either be in D5 or E4. If we place him in D5, however, there are no more empty squares adjacent in order to place the Power Stone. So, Rocket is in E4 and Groot is left in D5.

Iron ManFemale Winter Soldier
Black Widow Hawkeye
FemaleSpider-ManFalcon Drax
Jane FosterAnt ManWar MachineRocket
Scarlet WitchThorGrootVision
Captain AmericaGamoraStar LordLokiMind StoneBlack Panther

The squares adjacent to Rocket that remain empty are E3, F4 and F5. However, we know from Jane’s clue that stones cannot share a ‘line of sight’ (as defined in the ‘How to Play’ as sharing a row, column or diagonal). So, given that the Mind Stone is in E5, there can be no Stones in the orange squares, which show the ‘line of sight’

This leaves only F4 as a possibility: so the Power Stone is in F4. (blue squares to show the lines of sight)

Thor tells us that the Reality Stone is in his row. There are two empty spots remaining – A5 and F5 – but F5 is in the same line of sight as the Mind Stone, leaving only A5. So the Reality Stone is in A5. (green squares to show lines of sight)

Iron ManFemale Winter Soldier
Black Widow Hawkeye
FemaleSpider-ManFalcon Drax

Captain AmericaGamoraStar LordLokiMind StoneBlack Panther

Thor also tells us that the Time Stone is in his column. There are 2 empty squares – C1 and C2 – but C1 is in the line of sight of the Power Stone, so it’s not an option, leaving the Time Stone in C2. (purple squares to show lines of sight)

Captain AmericaGamoraStar LordLokiMind StoneBlack Panther

Now, there are no squares left that are not within a stone’s line of sight, so there can be no more stones as answers (Jane’s clue).

We’ve uncovered a few clues along the way:

ROCKET: Thanos isn’t adjacent to any of the stones

POWER STONE: Pepper Potts is adjacent to Tony Stark

TIME STONE: Spider-Man is adjacent to his best friend, Ned

Let’s start with the Power Stone’s clue – B1 and A2 are both empty and adjacent to Iron Man (Tony Stark). But Pepper must be in Column B, as a woman (Ant Man’s clue). So Pepper is in B1.

The Time Stone’s clue tells us that Spider-Man is adjacent to Ned. There are two blank spaces adjacent to Spider-Man – B3 and D2. But B3 must be a woman (Iron Man’s clue). So Ned is in D2.

Rocket’s clue tells us that Thanos could be in A2, A3, E1 or F2, but we don’t know exactly where he is yet.

PEPPER POTTS: Thanos doesn’t share a row with any of the stones

This eliminates A2 and F2 as possibilities for Thanos (Time Stone in C2), leaving A3 or F1.

NED LEEDS: The green lady’s sister is here somewhere… I think there are actually two green people, although one seems really angry…

The ‘green lady’ is Gamora, and her sister is Nebula. As a woman, she must be in Column B, and the only empty spot left is B3. So, Nebula is in B3. Ned also tells us that the Hulk is around here somewhere…

NEBULA: The Warriors Three share a column and are in alphabetical order from top to bottom.

The Warriors Three – from Thor – are Fandral, Hogun and Volstagg. Only one column still has three empty squares – column A. So Fandral is in A2, Hogun is in A3 and Volstagg is in A4, in order to be alphabetically in order.

Furthermore, A3 is no longer a possibility for Thanos, as Fandral is now in that spot. This leaves only E1 free for Thanos. So Thanos is in E1.

FANDRAL: Doctor Strange is adjacent to the Time Stone

HOGUN: Vulture is adjacent to Thanos but not Drax

There are two empty squares adjacent to Thanos – D1 and F2. However, F2 is adjacent to Drax, so the Vulture cannot be there. Therefore, Vulture is in D1. This only leaves one square adjacent to the Time Stone empty – C1 – so Doctor Strange must be in C1.

DOCTOR STRANGE: All villains in the quiz are adjacent to at least one other villain (except Loki)

VULTURE: My fellow villains Red Skull and Ego are both here somewhere

There are 3 empty squares left – E3, F2 and F5. Of these, F5 is not adjacent to any villains – so Ego and Red Skull cannot go there, leaving them in E3 and F2. Remember Ned’s clue that the Hulk is an answer? So the Hulk goes in F5.
