Walkthrough for the Planner Logic Puzzle

Let’s start with the first three clues.
Marriage: “Events in the middle column all start earlier than July, except for Climbing (which starts in September).”
Hiking Trip: “An event must be adjacent to at least one other event that starts in the same month as them.”
Chess Tournament: “This row only consists of months that start with a unique letter.”
First, note that one is given, as Climbing, coming from Marriage’s clue, starts in September. Furthermore, February is the only unique-starting month that starts earlier than July, thus Visiting a Friend must start in February.

Visiting a Friend: “No two months in the same column end in the same letter.”
There are 5 months that start in a unique letter, but February is the only month that doesn’t end in R. And as Preparing a Costume cannot start in a “R”-ending month, that means that Preparing a Costume will start in February. Note that Spa or Moving Out has to start in December as Marriage must be adjacent to one that does so. Similarly, Writing a Book or Shopping must start in August as it must be adjacent to Hiking Trip (which starts in August). Note that Solving Sudokus cannot start in a “R”-ending month as Spa and Moving Out are in the same column as them. Thus, Solving Sudokus must start in February, the only other unique-starting month.

Solving Sudokus: “An event scheduled in March must be adjacent to at least one event that starts in July or August.”
Preparing a Costume: “There are exactly 3 events that are scheduled in February.”
From this, we know that no other events will be scheduled in February. That would mean that Playing Sporcle must start in a “R”-ending month. As Chess Tournament (that starts in September) must be adjacent to another September-starting event, Playing Sporcle will begin in September as starting the event Taking this Quiz or Exercising in September would result in Playing Sporcle not starting in any month.

Playing Sporcle: “One of the main diagonals contain exactly 4 events that start in a ‘J’ month.”
From this, we know that the diagonal mentioned must be the Shopping-Camping diagonal, and from there we know that Writing a Book will commence in August as August doesn’t start with “J”. We also know that Shopping and Birthday Party have to start in the same month as Shopping must be adjacent to another event that starts in the same month (note that it can’t be August). Let’s turn our attention to Cooking Lessons:
- It cannot start in September, October, or November as Marriage (which starts in December) is in the same column as Cooking Lessons.
- For the same reason above, it cannot start in January, May, or July as it ends in “Y”.
- August is not possible as there is already one present in Writing a Book and February is no longer possible.
That leaves us with March, April, and June for Cooking Lessons. Note that March is also impossible as it must be adjacent to a July-starting or August-starting month, though none of them can be fit anywhere as Hiking Trip’s column already contains a Y-ending month and August is already present. Also, for Shopping, it cannot start in July as February is already present there.

Writing a Book: “An event scheduled in January must be adjacent to at least one event that starts in May or June.”
From this, we know that both Shopping and Birthday Party cannot start in January as Shopping (which, according to this scenario, starts in January) must be adjacent to a May-starting or June-starting event. Thus, both Shopping and Birthday Party start in June. From this, we know that Cooking Lessons will begin in April. Next, note that Bike Riding and Camping must start on a “J” month.

Shopping: “All of the single-worded events are all scheduled in different months.”
As Marriage starts in December, Spa cannot start in December also, so Moving Out will occur in December and Spa taking place in April.. Also, as Shopping begins in June, Camping cannot begin in June which leaves us with January and July. If we assume that Camping begins in January:
- That eliminates July from Bike Racing. And since a January-starting event has to be adjacent to a June-starting month (May is impossible as January and May cannot be in the same column as either Learning Touch-Typing or Bike Racing must start in January).
- Knowing that we have 2 months that start single-worded events (Shopping for June and Camping for January), that leaves us with December and April. As December starts after July, Canoeing must then start in April. However, Spa has already started in April.
From this, we know that Camping must then start in July. And from this, we know that Bike Racing also starts in July as the June-starting events are all connected diagonally and January is not possible.

Now, we have to list the possible months that start before July, which could be March, April, and June. For Canoeing, it’s obvious that April and June cannot be there as Shopping starts in June and Spa starts in April. Thus, Canoeing starts in March. Similarly, both Learning Touch-Typing and Taking this Quiz will start in March as Canoeing must be adjacent to a March-starting event, with Taking this Quiz also following. Again, note that both Taking Pictures and Driving Around must start in April and June somewhat.

August | June | September | ||
June | August | April/June |
Taking this Quiz: “All of the events scheduled in June are all connected diagonally.”
With this clue, we know that Taking Pictures starts in April and Driving Around will start in June.

Driving Around: “An event that starts in August must be adjacent to at least one event that starts in March or June.”
There are only three remaining months (April, June, August) of which two of them will be used. First, we know that Buying a New Planner and Exercising cannot start in June as that would nullify Taking this Quiz’s clue (which states that ALL of the June-starting events are diagonally adjacent).
Similarly, Exercising cannot start in April as Spa already started in April. Thus, Exercising begins in August. And since it must be adjacent to at least one June-starting event (Again, March is impossible as we’d have two March-starting events in the same column), that would mean that Taking a Vaccine will begin in June and Looking for Clock Hands will also begin in June as Buying a New Planner (which starts in August) would block Looking for Clock Hands from that cell.
