Welcome to A Little More, which is our weekly look at some of our favorite questions from last week at Sporcle Events pub quiz shows. Q: Of the nine winners of the Academy Award for Best Picture whose one-word titles are the name of a human character who appears in the film, Amadeus comes first alphabetically. Which of those films comes LAST alphabetically?
A: Rocky

A Little More – In alphabetical order, those films are Amadeus, Ben-Hur, Gandhi, Gigi, Hamlet, Marty, Oliver!, Patton, and Rocky. For all the fans of Hitchcock’s 1940 film Rebecca, the title character is unseen, having died before the events of the film. Spoiler Alert!

A Little More – The SAG awards are considered one of the most prestigious awards in the entertainment industry, as actors and actresses vote to determine the winners. They are widely recognized as a bellwether for the Academy Awards, as many of the same performances are honored at both events. The figure in the SAG award is known as “The Actor.”

A Little More – According to Little Debbie, Cosmic Brownies were originally created because of the Cosmic Bowling trend. Yep, these iconic brownies celebrate out-of-this-world with bowling alleys in mind! While Zebra Cakes have been around since the 1960s, it wasn’t until 1991 when they took on their current name. Prior to 1991 they literally had a very “vanilla” name – Vanilla Snack Cakes. On a side note, this question also reminded us to watch this clip of Will Ferrell as Little Debbie.

Q: Singer Victor Willis is the co-founder of what disco group named for a neighborhood in New York City, of which he is the only original member remaining?

A Little More – The group was named after Greenwich Village in NYC. They launched into the mainstream, scoring several disco hits, including the singles “Macho Man”, “In the Navy”, “Go West”, and “Y.M.C.A.”, which was their biggest hit. In March 2020, the Library of Congress added “Y.M.C.A.” to the National Recording Registry, calling it an “American phenomenon.”
