7 years ago, Olivia Rodrigo was just a kid trying to make it in the acting business. Now, she is a household name nationwide. The 19-year-old singer-songwriter launched into stardom through her Disney Channel roles and quickly became a teen pop sensation after she released “Drivers License” and her record-breaking album Sour. Her journey to fame has come through tremendous hard work and perseverance.
From a young age, Olivia Rodrigo knew she wanted to be a performer. She took acting and singing lessons at six years old. She also learned how to play the piano and guitar.
When she was 12 years old, she decided to pursue acting professionally. In 2015, she appeared in an Old Navy commercial and starred in An American Girl: Grace Stirs Up Success as the lead: Grace Thomas.
Rodrigo booked her first tv gig on the Disney Channel series Bizaardvark in 2016, where she played Paige Olvera, the singing, guitar-playing protagonist. After three seasons, the show ended, but Disney cast her as Nina Salazar-Roberts in 2019 for their new series, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Rodrigo not only acted in the High School Musical reboot but also produced songs for the show. She wrote her character’s ballad “All I Want” and co-wrote “Just for a Moment” with co-star Joshua Bassett.
Debuting at No.90 on the January 2020 edition of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, “All I Want” became a breakout hit for the Disney series. This song began Olivia Rodrigo’s rise to fame and sparked a contract deal with Interscope Records and Geffen Records in 2020.
Next, Rodrigo released her debut single, “Drivers License,” on January 8, 2021. The song spent eight consecutive weeks at No.1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, making Rodrigo the youngest artist to reach this feat. Following that song’s publication, she released two songs, “Deja Vu” and “Good 4 U,” that received rave reviews.
Finally, Rodrigo released her debut album Sour on May 21, 2021. The album features 11 songs about life, love, and loss. These themes relate to millions of people. As a result, her 2022 Europe and American tour sold out within minutes.

Olivia Rodrigo remained in the spotlight following her surprise appearance at the White House on July 14, 2021. She looked to continue President Joe Biden’s initiative to get America’s youth fully vaccinated. She took the stand in D.C. to speak out about the importance of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Another powerful statement she makes is through her fashion. Rodrigo is known for her eclectic style. But behind the bold patterns and combat boots lies a more profound message. Rodrigo dresses using sustainable fashion because she doesn’t appreciate how employees are paid below minimum wage to run fast fashion businesses.
