Here’s something about Bob Ross you might not know, the technique he uses to paint landscapes relatively quickly is directly because of the military. Ross served in the US Air Force for 20 years–starting as a medical records technician in 1961. Anyway, while in Alaska, Ross fell in love with the landscapes and learned to paint during breaks. Then he’d sell them to tourist shops. Pretty convenient side hustle.
