Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in 1936, Pope Francis was selected to the head of the Catholic Church in 2013. For a while he was deemed pretty chill, mostly because he believed same-sex couples should enjoy legal protection. Which was kind of turned on its head later when he signed off on a Vatican decree that priests are barred from blessing those same couples. Anyway while Pope Francis has been often received as one of the more progressive Popes, his relationship with being socially progressive in the contemporary sense is complicated. Really, that just means there’s an asterisk next to what is considered contemporary progressivism and the modern Catholic Church; since the Church is currently trying to figure out the divide between its more liberal and conservative members (and leaders). Anyway here are some Pope Francis quotes to bless your day with. Or something.
