Flashback to March 16, 2020, when we made the call to shutdown all trivia in light of emerging news about this new virus called COVID-19. At the time, we thought things would be paused just until March 30th – ha! Little did we know that we were all in it for the long-haul and live trivia wouldn’t be around for quite a while.

In a panic, and feeling dreadful for all those trivia hosts who were suddenly out of a job, we ran some donation-based games on Youtube and started a content subscription service to raise money for hosts in lieu of regular gigs. In six weeks, we were able to raise about $20,000 to support the hosts who needed it most. But we quickly realized we needed something more reliable.

So, on April 8th, 2020, we hosted the first virtual trivia game.

This allowed us to employ hosts again, and gave people an outlet to connect with one another while they were being told to stay home and stay apart from loved ones.

Since then, we’ve hosted about 4,000 themed games and about 7,000 all-topics games for approximately 60,000 teams. We made a new entirely digital way of submitting answers. We started a leaderboard and team pages.

And, as we approach the first birthday of virtual live trivia, we are immensely thankful for everyone who has made it possible.

As a token of our gratitude, all games on the 1-year anniversary of virtual trivia will be priced at $1 per device (reduced from the normal $5 per device). We hope you’ll invite your friends and family to join us for a game or two that day!
