Sporcle Live Spotlight: Grand Trunk Pub

Grand Trunk Pub, Detroit, Michigan

Protecting the past, transforming the present, and investing in the future. That’s the premise upon which the Grand Trunk Pub was built. On the corner of Woodward and Congress, on the main artery of Downtown Detroit, this restaurant was created to breathe new life into a floundering city that was once the pride of the owner’s family.

Constructed in the 1870s as a railroad ticket office, transporting passengers across six states and two Canadian Provinces, Grand Trunk Pub is now a must-stop for food and beer that is “Made in Michigan,” with ingredients that are locally sourced whenever possible.

The Detroit pride shines through in the food with a local twist in presentation. The starter Reuben Poutine Tots are made with Wigley’s Corned Beef, stout kraut, Swiss Cheese curd, and slathered in Jameson Gravy.

The seasonal Crazy Salad satisfies with an amazing mix of charred sweet corn, shaved fennel, roasted red pepper, currants, avocado, purple potato crisps, farm greens and tossed in a cider vinaigrette. If you choose to make a Crazy Salad meal, top it with marinated chicken breast, chicken strips, or an Impossible burger.

Authentically Irish, the Shepherd’s Pie is a wonderful concoction of ground beef, sweet corn, parsnip, and leeks, with gravy-topped creamy mashed potatoes and cheddar.

The Grand Trunk Pub’s 24 Michigan beers on tap are all delicious and available to go in one flavor or a custom-made six pack. There is also a nice selection of hard cider and wine available for carryout in The Whisky Parlor.

Or, you can start your work week off right and drink the beer at the Grand Trunk Pub while you’re playing a game or two of Sporcle Live Trivia! Every Monday starting at 7 PM, you can challenge the limits of your knowledge with friends – or make new ones, playing for prizes.

Whether it’s for a meal, beer, or trivia, make the Grand Trunk Pub your next stop for a great time in the Motor City!
