Dog & Pony Alehouse, Renton, Washington
Locally famous for its miraculous public transformation on Restaurant: Impossible, Dog & Pony Alehouse got back to the basics. Sure, shiny new accoutrements look nice, but it’s only part of what a restaurant is, and owner Kristen Fisher knows that.
With a one-page menu, it’s the best of the best all in one glance. The Restaurant: Impossible-famous Crispy Fish Tacos are everything you’d expect. The combination of fried cod, tangy slaw, Mandarin orange and lemon aioli is a mouth party. The fresh Caesar salad can be topped with chicken or ahi. In fact, the menu items seem evenly split if you like your meat from land or sea.
The tap menu is especially IPA-generous, flaunting 10 out of 32 taps dedicated to hoppy goodness with flavors like Jellyfish Smack IPA, Matchless/Georgetown Juice Bomb Units, and Elysian Space Dust IPA. The other 22 taps are also exceptional, rounding out choices from Finnriver Lavender Black Currant Cider, Elemental Cider “Calcium” Blood Orange, NW Peaks Ingalls Ginger, Airways Curbside Porter and Flying Lion Rye Stout Nitro.
Visit the Dog & Pony on Saturdays, and you’ll be treated to live Bluegrass music to accompany your meal. Tuesdays are dedicated to two games of Sporcle Live Trivia starting at 7 PM.
