The Cherokee Tavern

The Cherokee Tavern, West St. Paul, Minnesota

The Cherokee Tavern started in 1933, and through several incarnations, found a wonderful way to emerge from the cocoon as a butterfly! The Cherokee Tavern is a chef-driven neighborhood tavern with daily specials and happy hour in a white-cloth setting.

Under new management since 2017, the renovated Cherokee pays homage to the tavern’s history with antique 1930’s lighting, exposed brick walls, and the original chirazo flooring. The menu still includes historic steakhouse favorites, now merged with updated choices like – for starters – the Tempura Fried Cheese Curds, local Ellsworth Wisconsin curds served with Sriracha ranch; or Voodoo Shrimp, five shrimp gently caressed with Cherokee’s secret spice rub and wrapped in bacon.

If a burger is in your cross hairs, all of Cherokee’s burgers are fresh-ground and hand-formed daily, presented on a Kaiser roll, and served with your choice of fresh-cut fries, tater tots, house-made kettle chips, or fresh fruit. Selections include the Cherokee Original, the Texan with white American and sharp cheddar cheeses served on Texas toast with peppadew aioli, the Blue Line crafted in honor of First Responders, or the Saint Joe’s with melted Brie cheese and caramelized onions. Hungry yet?

Pull up a chair and hover over the Tournados and Shrimp Béarnaise, twin 4 oz. tenderloin medallions drizzled with Béarnaise sauce and seared jumbo shrimp.

Even more delicious food choices await your anxious stomach with specials every day Monday through Saturday, and Taco Wednesdays accompanied by a rousing side of Sporcle Live Trivia starting at 7:30 PM!
