5 Lakes Brewing Company, Dorr, Michigan
It’s been said that a parent will do anything for a child. This was certainly true when, over a glass of wine, co-owner Lisa Blain told Cindy Lameyer she wanted to open a brewery to keep her son from moving away to Florida. Her son had planned the move there to work for his friend’s distillery, so opening a brewery seemed like the perfect solution to keep him around. After months of research and planning, the doors to 5 Lakes Brewing opened in December, 2016.
It’s more than a brewery, though. It’s a multiplex of beer, food, and bowling. You heard right. There is a bowling facility. It’s the trifecta of entertainment!
Let’s start with the beer…You can’t go wrong, whether you choose the Huron Gold, Michigan IPA, Superior Ale, Ontario Porter, Erie Stout, or the Pin Chaser Pils. In varying strengths, from 3.0% to 6.4% ABV, your taste buds will thank you. Feel free to invite your non-beer friends, because there are ciders, wines, and spirits available for consumption.
5 Lakes Brewing Company offers a selection of food staples intertwined with the slightly offbeat to keep bored tongues intrigued. I hear the question: What’s offbeat? Try Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup; maybe Homemade Fried Pickle Wraps, a Michigan Cherry Salad, or even a Wet Burrito.
Once you’ve stuffed yourself full, there are 20-lanes of bowling – enough for that kid or adult birthday party, friendly leagues, or a work fundraiser.
On Wednesdays at 7 and 8 PM, Sporcle Live Trivia invades the premises so you can show off that slightly competitive side.
And to think, it all got started because one mom wanted to keep her son from moving out of state. Maybe I should tell my mom that I’m leaving and see what she does…
