While some items seem to be just the classics, a closer look reveals a Caesar salad with brussels sprouts and squash, or their chicken and dumplings in which “dumplings” is actually code for pork and more chicken. Why the emphasis on food?
The Pig & Porter strives to reflect on its Iowa roots (also a reason for “Pig” in their name!) by focusing heavily on sourcing local Iowa ingredients in both food and drinks. They use the term “Porter” not to reference all the beer they have (even though they do have a lot), but rather to express a constant reminder that everyone working for them is a Porter, or a person who carries heavy loads. No single person working at P&P is more important than another, they all work to provide their customers with the best experience possible, so every role is crucial in the operation of the business.
Not everything here is about the food, though. They feature separate, craft beer, wine, whiskey, and award-winning cocktail menus so there is absolutely something for everyone!
