Want to know a little bit of trivia? Did you know that January 4th is National Trivia Day?
Of course, here at Sporcle, every day is National Trivia Day. We pride ourselves on being the leading provider of trivia entertainment on the web, on mobile apps (Word Ladder, Party, and The Sporcle App), and at live and virtual trivia shows.
Still, holidays like this only come once a year. So in honor of this special occasion, we thought we would help get you started with a few ways you can join in on the festivities.
Here are 7 Ways to Celebrate National Trivia Day:
1. Post on Social Media
Informal holidays like this exist largely in part to online social media campaigns (see Star Wars Day). To celebrate National Trivia Day, and to help the holiday grow, why not post your favorite trivia facts on social media?
Be sure to use the hashtag #NationalTriviaDay in your posts. And throw in a #Sporcle if you want bonus points.
What better way to brush up on some trivia facts than by simply reading? Read a book, a newspaper or online article, or if you really want to go all in – an encyclopedia.
If you’re not sure what to read, we recommend starting with this article on the History of Trivia. And if you like that, be sure to check out our many other articles. You might just learn something new!
3. Start All Your Conversations with “Did you know…”
Sure, nobody likes a know-it-all, but today is the one day a year you can unload all those trivia facts you have been storing in your head upon your friends and not feel bad about it.
If you need some inspiration, try these conversation starters out for size:
“Did you know Oscar the Grouch used to be orange?”
“Did you know Alaska is the only state that can be typed on one row of keys?”
“Did you know Elton John was born Reginald Kenneth Dwight?”
There are literally endless possibilities.
4. Play Some Trivia Board Games
Board games can be great in social settings. They can challenge you, help you learn new things, and allow for some friendly competition.
There are countless trivia board games out there that you can play with your friends and family. Our personal favorite is the classic, Trivial Pursuit. It’s fun, easy to play, and can be enjoyed by everyone.
“Did you know that over 100 million copies of Trivial Pursuit have been sold?”
See what we did there?
5. Attend a Trivia Show (In-person or Virtually)
Do you like your trivia served up with a cold beer and a side of fries? If so, National Trivia Day is the perfect time to call up your buddies, pick a punny team name, and play some live trivia. There are also many online options for a trivia night in as well.
6. Watch “Jeopardy!”
Okay, so you want to learn some trivia facts, but don’t want to have to leave the cozy comforts of your couch. Thankfully, there are many trivia game shows out there that you can watch.
Jeopardy! is an old classic that has withstood the test of time. You can play along with the contestants while you watch, and feel smart when you get answers correct. Plus, who knows, you might just get to watch super Sporcler El_Dandy do his thing.
