Curator Knows Best: FantasticBowTies

(Last Updated On: August 29, 2017)

Bowties are cool, and FantasticBowTies is no exception.

When it comes to Sporcle, curators truly do know best. In this blog series, some of the great curators of Sporcle share their expert opinions on curating, top-notch quizzes, up-and-coming Sporclers, and a wee bit of trivia.

This week we feature FantasticBowTies, curator for the Doctor Who subcategory.

How did you first get involved with Sporcle?
A couple of years ago, I decided to type into Google ‘‘Harry Potter Quizzes’’ (I’m a fan of both Harry Potter and Doctor Who). I went through and played the search results – about three pages worth. Some of these results included Sporcle Harry Potter quizzes. After a few times playing Sporcle quizzes, I decided to look closer at the site, and got caught up playing on it almost every day for a few months. After a while, I decided that I wanted to try making my own quizzes, so I created an account.

Why did you decide to be a curator for your subcategory?
I was going through different subcategories I like when I saw that the space for Doctor Who Curator was open. Based on my love of the show, I thought I should give it a try. I still remember how I found out that I had been accepted. I was going through my favourite subcategories again, and saw my profile picture in the box saying I was the Curator.

What’s your favorite trivia fact having to do with your subcategory?
When David Tennant, the actor of the 10th incarnation (technically 11th) was asked if he wanted to play the Doctor, his first response was apparently: ‘’Can I have a long, swishy coat?’’ – And that’s what he got.

What are some of your favorite published quizzes from your subcategory?
I love most of the published Doctor Who quizzes, including Doctor Who Typing Challenge by  kingsley2707 and Follow That Line: ‘Doctor Who’ by tardis.

What are some of your favorite contributed quizzes from your subcategory?
Oh, there are too many fantastic ones to choose from, but some immediate thoughts include Obscure Knowledge – Doctor Who by PenguinsMeercats, Doctor Who Crochet Dolls by PrincessMartell, and Seeing a Fourth Doctor Quote made by seanpat0 .

What are your favorite quizzes from an entirely different category?
As I said above, I’m a big fan of Harry Potter quizzes as well, so I enjoy many of those quizzes including hockeystix3‘s quiz, Don’t Quote Harry Potter On That! and the playlist Sassy Harry Potter Characters by TeamStarkidFan.
I also enjoy a nice light-hearted quiz every now and then, such as Probo11‘s quiz Jokes In Reverse.

Which Sporcle Group do you frequent most often?
I don’t often go on Sporcle Groups, but I will sometimes look at a few different groups every now and then, mostly looking in Shameless Promotion.

How can Sporclers in your subcategory best contact you?
Use the Sporcle Messaging Service.

Are there any Sporclers whose quizzes you think merit more attention than they get?
christopherjulia makes a lot of great quizzes, and as mentioned above, seanpat0 makes some great quizzes, in both Doctor Who and other subcategories.

Haiku or favorite Dad Joke (or both):
I’ll attempt a Haiku:

Roses; they are red
And the TARDIS is bright blue.
Oops, gone Doctor Who!

That was really poor, I know, so I’ll add one of my favourite jokes:
I tried to catch fog the other day.
