When it comes to Sporcle, curators truly do know best. In this blog series, some of the great curators of Sporcle share their expert opinions on curating, top-notch quizzes, up-and-coming Sporclers, and a wee bit of trivia.
How did you first get involved with Sporcle?
I first got involved in Sporcle in late 2011 when I tried to learn all the Countries of the World. After learning those, I memorized all the Capitals and Flags of the World as well. For a few years, I mainly played quizzes when I wasn’t logged into an account, but I made this account in 2015 because I wanted to see all the quiz stats. Geography quizzes are what hooked me in, but I’ve long been a fan of trivia regarding the U.S. Presidents, Disney, and the Bible.
Why did you decide to be a curator for your subcategory?
I wanted to be a Curator because I knew I was up for the challenge, and when I saw a category that I liked available, I decided to give it a try. Also, I wanted the opportunity to make Picture Box quizzes…a quiz type that I may still try to utilize in the future.
What’s your favorite trivia fact having to do with your subcategory?
The Blitz category doesn’t really lend itself to have specific trivia facts, but I’ve enjoyed learning a wide range of facts from many different categories.
What are some of your favorite published quizzes from your subcategory?
I really enjoy quizzes where I have to type in a long list of answers in a short amount of time. Of these quizzes, my favorite is probably the Disney Animated Movies Blitz. I also really like USA States by Any 2 Letters Blitz as well as other quizzes in that series.
What are some of your favorite contributed quizzes from your subcategory?
One of my favorite contributed quizzes in my subcategory is Periodic Table by any 2 Letters (Blind Blitz). Another of my favorites is Armageddon! – European Capitals. I welcome great map quizzes like these in the Blitz subcategory!
What are your favorite quizzes from an entirely different category?
One of my favorite quizzes from other categories are Capitals AND Countries because it represents the ultimate test of naming the countries and capitals of the world without any help from a map. Another favorite of mine is Around the World in 80 Slides which is quite a wonder to look at. A third of my favorites is Horrifying Disney Face Swaps, which is a hilarious quiz that most certainly should be published in the future.
Which Sporcle Group do you frequent most often?
I like to frequent the General Discussion and Trophy Case and Recognition groups the most. I like to check the Badge Talk group daily as well. Sporcle Groups is a great way of feeling connected on the site!
How can Sporclers in your subcategory best contact you?
People can best contact me by directly messaging me with their quiz. I welcome self-promotion for quality quizzes!
Are there any Sporclers whose quizzes you think merit more attention than they get?
The nice thing about Sporcle is that deserving quizmakers rarely go unnoticed. A couple that I think deserve more attention are gingerlover, who is churning out a lot of quality quizzes recently, and NO_r_WAY, who is an exceptional quizmaker that I think deserves more accolades.
