TheInfam0usThey is impressive, but the fact that his NES still works is on another level entirely

When it comes to Sporcle, curators truly do know best. In this blog series, some of the great curators of Sporcle share their expert opinions on curating, top-notch quizzes, up-and-coming Sporclers, and a wee bit of trivia.

This week we feature TheInfam0usThey, curator for the Billboard and Console subcategories.

How did you first get involved with Sporcle?
sanders590 is a friend of mine and introduced me to the site. He’d be playing quizzes while I was talking to him on Skype and eventually I had to know what he was doing. I really didn’t get into it until I discovered the badges. In a lot of video games, I always have to try for all the accomplishments, and Sporcle seems to be no different to me.

Why did you decide to be a curator for your subcategories?
Console: I’ve owned every console by Nintendo since the NES (still works) plus a couple of handhelds. I’ve had access to the Sega and Sony systems at one time or another and own a PS4. I feel like a have a good general knowledge of the systems from the major companies, and I still love video games in my mid-30s.
Billboard: I was one of those strange kids who actually loved the music that my parents listened to when they were growing up. I know music from the mid-’50s through now, and many different genres.
I still think the ’80s are the best though and you will find many of my picks have to do with that decade. I also always loved listening to the Casey Kasem countdowns every week, plus a couple of other charts. Billboard was close enough to cover all that I liked.

What’s your favorite trivia fact having to do with your subcategories?
Console: Not really a console fact, but video games in general–Video games aren’t just for male kids anymore. 2016 demographics show that the average age of a video game player is 35 years old, and in 2014, 48% of gaming was done by women.
Billboard: Mariah Carey’s ‘We Belong Together’ and Boyz II Men’s ‘I’ll Make Love To You’ are tied for second for most weeks at #1 with 14 weeks. What is #1? The Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s duet ‘One Sweet Day’ for 16 weeks.

What are some of your favorite published quizzes from your subcategories?
Console: I really enjoyed the entire series, but bhenderson79‘s Clickable Sporcle Quiz Show: Gaming is my favorite.
Billboard: Almost all of caramba‘s 50 hits to click from the ’80s were published so it’s hard to pick which one I liked the best. 1989 is one of my 100% scores though.

What are some of your favorite contributed quizzes from your subcategories?
Console: sanders590‘s Gaming Console by First Games is a great picture click. It’s not enough to know what the consoles’ first games were, you need to know what the console looks like as well.
Billboard: There are a lot I could list here, but there are two series that I have really enjoyed the last couple of weeks. One is sbme‘s 1 Second Per Year. It starts with a song clip from 1968 and goes through 2017. The catch is that you only get first second of the song. Tough but very fun. I also have been enjoying a series by DRobe772 called Billboard Hot 100 Artists Most Weeks at #1. The series has covered many decades and alternative categories.

What are your favorite quizzes from an entirely different category?
Before joining Sporcle, I probably couldn’t name half of the countries of the world, but I play Matt‘s Countries of the World quiz a lot so I can remember them all. I still forget a couple of them every time though. I am a big baseball fan and I like most statistics quizzes, such as ironsij0287‘s MLB Home Run Leaders (1990s) and twhirsh‘s MLB 200+ Hits (1989-Present). I also loved playing through SIA’s Puzzle Hunt quizzes.

Which Sporcle Group do you frequent most often?
I’m not big into the Groups but I do go on the Trophy Case page once in a while to see any recent noteworthy achievements. And if I have a quiz question, I usually ask my fellow curators.

How can Sporclers in your subcategories best contact you?
Anything Sporcle-related should be sent to me on Sporcle Messages. I check it a lot more than my other addresses anyway.

Are there any Sporclers whose quizzes you think merit more attention than they get?
sanders590 has a lot of great Baseball and Oscar quizzes and only recently has he started getting a couple of quizzes on the published list. As I said earlier, DRobe772 has a lot of good Billboard #1s quizzes but hasn’t had a publish yet. sbme makes great music clip quizzes. And goc3 is a good quizmaker for Legend of Zelda fans who know the map layouts.

Haiku or favorite Dad Joke (or both):
What is a haiku?
Never heard of it before.
Guess I’ll look it up.
