King of England 1087-1100, Sporcler 2011-present.

When it comes to Sporcle, curators truly do know best. In this blog series, some of the great curators of Sporcle share their expert opinions on curating, top-notch quizzes, up-and-coming Sporclers, and a wee bit of trivia.

This week we feature william2, curator for the Golf and World Leaders subcategories.

How did you first get involved with Sporcle?
I first got involved in Sporcle back in college, probably around 2009. I don’t remember exactly how I was introduced to Sporcle, but I do remember loving the Countries of the World quiz and have been hooked ever since! I didn’t create an account on the website until late in 2011 and didn’t create my first quiz until 2013.

Why did you decide to be a curator for your subcategories?
I have been a fan of golf for as long as I can remember, so when the Golf subcategory became available, I jumped at the chance to contribute more to the Sporcle community. I picked up the World Leaders curatorship after its former curator decided to step down, and as someone who studied history in college, I knew I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to engage in a topic that I love.

What’s your favorite trivia fact having to do with your subcategories?
An interesting trivia fact that combines both of my subcategories: Former leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-il, in his first ever round of golf, supposedly shot a 38-under round which included 5 holes-in-one. Just beginner’s luck, I guess.

What are some of your favorite published quizzes from your subcategories?
Golf: babymonkee’s Clickable Golf Terms and Chilli_Dipper’s World’s Top-Ranked Golfers: Last 30 Years.
World Leaders: Hejman’s Kid LeadersJar514’s Obama Shaking Hands with the World, and Tr4pD00r’s Cold War Era Leaders.

What are some of your favorite contributed quizzes from your subcategories?
Golf: Hullabaloo’s Clickable Rules of Golf and needapausebutton’s Famous Golfers Striking a Pose.
World Leaders: Alcas’s World Leaders by George W. Bush PaintingNO_r_WAY’s What is Kim Jong-un Looking At?, and vpetmad’s Russian Leaders by Russian Doll.

What are your favorite quizzes from an entirely different category?
betraisefold’s Word Laddyrinth quizzes are some of my favorites of all time. I also enjoy zeppelinoid’s Countries of Empires series. babymonkee’s Odd but True Facts series is also a lot of fun.

Which Sporcle Group do you frequent most often?
Definitely Find the Star. The themes of the games are very creative!

How can Sporclers in your subcategories best contact you?
Sporcle Messages are usually the best way to contact me, although sometimes I’m a bit slow to respond!

Are there any Sporclers whose quizzes you think merit more attention than they get?
pecheneg has been making some great quizzes lately, particularly the quizzes in the playlist Countries of the World by Sporcle Category. Aztlan_Historian has also contributed some great history quizzes recently that people should check out.

Haiku or favorite Dad Joke (or both):
How do you find Will Smith in the snow?
You look for the fresh prints.
