Curator Knows Best: Cutthroat

(Last Updated On: January 12, 2017)

Shhh Admiral Ackbar, I don’t think he knows he’s trapped yet

When it comes to Sporcle, curators truly do know best. In this blog series, some of the great curators of Sporcle share their expert opinions on curating, top-notch quizzes, up-and-coming Sporclers, and a wee bit of trivia.

This week we feature Cutthroat, curator for the Century subcategory.

How did you first get involved with Sporcle?
I think I had played a couple of quizzes, but I didn’t get properly involved before a friend of mine challenged me to take a quiz he’d made. I made my own account and put together a couple of quizzes, but then dropped off for some years. Doing pop-quizzes at work got me interested in creating quizzes again, though, and I was lucky enough to receive feedback on my quizzes that really helped to push me in the right direction. (Thanks, napb :))
One thing led to another, and I’ve been around ever since.

Why did you decide to be a curator for your subcategory?
Mostly, it was because I wanted to help others as I’d been helped. Getting my first curator pick along with sound advice felt really good, and I felt like I could help others in the same way. I’ve always enjoyed History as a subject, and when I got the chance to apply for a subcategory in that field, I thought I’d better give it a go.

What’s your favorite trivia fact having to do with your subcategory?
Well, a century seems like a long time, but then consider the fact that John Tyler, the 10th President of USA, born in 1790, still has two living grandsons.

What are some of your favorite published quizzes from your subcategory?
The first one that comes to mind is Hejman‘s Picture Click Timeline 20th Centurygazzso‘s Spotlight on the 20th Century is another quiz I instantly liked.

What are some of your favorite contributed quizzes from your subcategory?
I’ m not normally a fan of long quizzes, but 20th Century World History: January by HCTristesse caught my eye. khands has a lot of quality History quizzes, so it’s well worth to visit our Literature Editor’s History section as well!

What are your favorite quizzes from an entirely different category?
I’ll play pretty much anything, but quizzes that display creativity, and/or thinking outside the box is something I really enjoy. bhenderson79, gazzso and needapausebutton have all made quizzes that are jaw-droppingly good!

Which Sporcle Group do you frequent most often?
General Discussion, but I try to read through the others groups from time to time as well.

How can Sporclers in your subcategory best contact you?
Send me a message through Sporcle. If you have a quiz, or just an idea for a quiz, I’m always open for giving some feedback.

Are there any Sporclers whose quizzes you think merit more attention than they get?
LisaSimpsonOH‘s Movie Genre Picture Click has been a blast to follow, even the ones where I have no idea and end up guessing.

Haiku or favorite Dad Joke (or both):
What do you call a man with no shins? Tony.
