Curator Knows Best: Project50Songs

We like to think that AskJeeves went out of style just so that P50S could find Sporcle.

When it comes to Sporcle, curators truly do know best. In this blog series, some of the great curators of Sporcle share their expert opinions on curating, top-notch quizzes, up-and-coming Sporclers, and a wee bit of trivia.

This week we feature Project50Songs, curator for the Clip subcategory.

How did you first get involved with Sporcle?
In around 2010, when I was 11/12, I was perusing the internet for stuff to keep me entertained and so I googled ‘I am bored’. This website came up, I forget the name but it had lots of links to different things to do and one of them was a link to the The Simpsons quiz. I pressed it and I was hooked. I originally had an account called ninjanathan and then I moved onto sqeddovahkiin. This account had a brief series called ‘50 Things Associated With:‘ which then lead to me coming up with ‘50 Songs By:‘ and the rest is history!

Why did you decide to be a curator for your subcategories?
Actually, I didn’t. At the time of taking up the post, I was the Artist curator and I wasn’t respecting it half as much as JasonVoorhees is now. I had been making Clips quizzes for at least a year and a half and then I received a message from the then Clip curator, JoeBeta. He said that he would like me to take over from him as being both an editor and a curator was proving overwhelming. I was honestly touched by this gesture and took the offer gleefully. I then resigned as Artist curator and have tried to fill the boots of Joe but it is a very difficult task to fulfill.

What’s your favorite trivia fact having to do with your subcategories?
‘Clip’ isn’t really one for trivia facts but something I absolutely love telling people is that, in ‘Downtown’ by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, there is a singer featured who I at first thought was Mariah Carey (or at least a wannabe Mariah). It happens to be that that singer is, in fact, male. He is called Eric Nally. Another thing about that song is that it is one of my all-time favourites but Time voted it the 5th worst song of 2015.

What are some of your favorite published quizzes from your subcategories?
My absolute favourite quiz of all-time is Bazmerelda‘s 200 Songs In 3 Minutes but other favourites include the Regurgitated Lyrics series by MrChewyPoo and Rockgolf‘s Backwards Songs.

What are some of your favorite contributed quizzes from your subcategories?
Where do I begin? I have to begin somewhere and I will start with the Clip veteran hcd199. He’s been doing this for years but I enjoyed his quizzes where he asked Sporclers to get involved and post their favourite songs and artists (Sporclers’ Favourite Songs & Sporclers’ Favourite Artists). One of the best quizzes of the year so far was JasonVoorheesMusic Connections. AuroraIllumina deserves a shout out for starting the quiz series 50 Moments and so does ALeafOnTheWind42 for their quizzes Intros That Stand Out.

What are your favorite quizzes from an entirely different category?
It will not come as a surprise to anyone that knows me even remotely that I absolutely love The Walking Dead. And so, I play them quizzes at any given opportunity as well as clip quizzes. Should myitbos decide that they no longer want to be the curator for The Walking Dead, I will be first in line to take the position! Any The Walking Dead fan will love zrex‘s Most Lines In The Walking Dead series.

Which Sporcle Group do you frequent most often?
I definitely check Find The Star a lot because I love playing and haven’t missed a game since it started. Although, I’ve only won 6 games of 81!

How can Sporclers in your subcategories best contact you?
They can just pop me a message and I will get back to them as soon as possible! I am also eager to invite anyone who wants to start making a clip quiz for the first time to message me and I can give them a tutorial.

Are there any Sporclers whose quizzes you think merit more attention than they get?
ALeafOnTheWind42 definitely and I’ve heard that Project50Songs is pretty good…..
