The “rising star” of Better Know a Curator has risen!

When it comes to Sporcle, curators truly do know best. In this blog series, some of the great curators of Sporcle share their expert opinions on curating, top-notch quizzes, up-and-coming Sporclers, and a wee bit of trivia.

This week we feature Aprilli, curator for the Art subcategory.

How did you first get involved with Sporcle?
In 2009, my brother’s friend had found some NHL quizzes when surfing on the Internet. Then my brother told me about this great trivia site I might like, and I got addicted so badly. At first I only played quizzes, and started making them myself in 2013. Sporcle community has given so much to me, and my brother always likes to remind me that introducing Sporcle to me is like the best Christmas/Birthday present he has ever given me.

Why did you decide to be a curator for your subcategory?
Back then, there wasn’t an art subcategory in Sporcle and I suggested it in old Sporcle University forum, Sporcle established this subcategory and I became the curator – one great example how Sporcle is a low threshold community, users have the ability to develop the site together with Admins. And personally, I love art: classic art, paintings, installations, graffiti, re-cycling art, modern art, cultural art.

What’s your favorite trivia fact having to do with your subcategory?
Did you know that, from 1912-1948, the Olympic Games awarded medals for artwork inspired by sport?

What are some of your favorite published quizzes from your subcategory?
My Favorite quizzes are Survivor‘s Works of Art: Odd One Outbam_thwok‘s Toddler Art or Modern Art?, and needapausebutton‘s Aesop’s Fables Illustrated. Those three, very different kind of quizzes are a great example of how versatile the subcategory Art is!

What are some of your favorite contributed quizzes from your subcategory?
khands has made several great art quizzes and my favorites are Months by Illuminated Manuscript and Art History Figures by Country. I’ve also being enjoying Tobsodan‘s Tour the Museum Series. And if one wants to find many quality quizzes from one user, check out timmylemoine1‘s Art quizzes, here is one example of his great work.

What are your favorite quizzes from an entirely different category?
Geography is my favorite category in Sporcle and my all time favorite quiz is Matt‘s Countries of the World because it got me hooked in Sporcle. Since I’m from Finland, I like quizzes about the region I live in, for example pedroia15‘s quiz Which Nordic Country is a great one. I love Slideshow quizzes and enjoyed mkkd‘s Awesome Border Crossings a lot. Also, I like niceday’s quiz First Countries to Give Women the Vote.

Which Sporcle Group do you frequent most often?
General Discussion and Sporcle News.

How can Sporclers in your subcategory best contact you?
By sending me messages via the Sporcle Message board.

Are there any Sporclers whose quizzes you think merit more attention than they get?
Sporcle is full of super talented people! I think that for example kfastic‘s geography quizzes and beisaa‘s art quizzes deserve a bit more acknowledgement.
