Better Know a Curator: amazingjosh

This is part of Sporcle’s long-running series highlighting our hard-working curators. Curators are editors for a specific subcategory, and their diligent work finding great quizzes from their subcategories (and sometimes others) helps to shape the site. We asked our curators to complete an interview of sorts, and we’re sharing their responses here on the blog.

This next post is from amazingjosh, curator for novel, country, former curator for quote and new curator for Chinese.

Editor’s Note: amazingjosh made some pretty good picks–a number of his favorite contributed quizzes have since been published. Can you find them??

1) How did you first get involved with playing Sporcle?

A friend, also named Josh, told me about it.  But it wasn’t until I realized it was unblocked at my school (wasn’t playing it in class, just after school) when I became really a hardcore Sporcler.

2) What are your favorite published quizzes from your subcategory?

From country, there’s always old favorites, but my two favorites are World Countries Border Blitz and Where Did I Put That Book?, which conveniently meshes into my second subcategory, novel.

My other undoubtable novel favorite is Novel By Page 61 Excerpt.

Quote [was] an interesting subcategory to have, because there’s good quizzes from all 15 categories.  Two really nice ones are Badly Translated Quotes and Follow That Line: Monty Python Quotes.

3) What are your favorite contributed quizzes from your subcategory?

For country: Non-Countries by Hejman, and Border Hopping Bonanza by Ubbiebubbie.

For novel: One-Sentence SparkNotes Summaries by Purple_Parrot and sproutcm’s entire Literature That Starts With… series.

For quote: Finish the Airplane! Line by hscer.

4) What are your favorite published quizzes from an entirely different category?

Hogwarts Wizard Training is hilarious, so is Hometown Favorites, and Movie Time.

 5) What are your favorite contributed quizzes from an entirely different category?

Gosh, there’s so many! I’ll have to list my 3 favorites (really, my 3 all-time favorites)

6) Are there any quizzes you’ve made that didn’t get the attention you were hoping for?

A couple, like Gaming Consoles By Release Date, Classic Clickable Jokes: Science Edition, and Best Picture: Won, Nominated, or Snubbed? But Sporcle usually does a great job of selecting quizzes, so I really can’t complain.

7) Who’s a user whose games you think deserves more attention?

CCCP and khands make some super-awesome stuff.  Among more-known users, I particularly enjoy bazmerelda’s quizzes.
