This is part of the Sporcle blog’s long-running a series highlighting some of our hard-working curators. Curators are editors for a specific subcategory, and their diligent work finding great quizzes from their subcategories (and sometimes others) helps to shape the site. We asked our curators to complete an interview of sorts, and we’re sharing their responses here on the blog.

This next post is from Tolkienite, curator for superhero and DC Comics.

1) How did you first get involved with playing Sporcle?

I don’t remeber exactly when I got involved to be honest, it probably just started with me being bored and looking for a quiz to play one day. I do remember getting hooked pretty quickly and for the longest time I didn’t have an account, so I finally got one August 2011 and started making my own stuff.

2) What are your favorite published quizzes from your subcategory?

I love Batman vs. Superman. It’s such a simple quiz but for some reason it really sticks with me. Another favorite is Know Your Lantern Corps! I remember the first time I played it I only really knew about the Green Lantern Corps and I guessed the other colors. I revisited it much later when I was curator and browsing through quizzes and managed to do much better.

3) What are your favorite contributed quizzes from your subcategory?

City Quiz: GOTHAM is one I really enjoyed and even learned some new things from, like the fact that Batman wasn’t its first protector, which was something I was really surprised to learn at the time. Batman: The Animated Series Characters is one I also really enjoyed, being a big fan of the show myself.

4) What are your favorite published quizzes from an entirely different category?

I remember playing The Mordor Quiz and just loving the fact that someone had made this. I love Lord of the Rings and playing this just made me smile, especially when I saw that one of the questions was “pedestrian accessibility” with the answer being “One does not simply walk into Mordor”. I thought that was brilliant. I am also a huge fan of the show LOST, in fact it’s my favorite show.  I love most of those published quizzes, but if I had to pick a favorite I would go with LOST: Dharma Stations.

5) What are your favorite contributed quizzes from an entirely different category?

Again LOST quizzes, the two I really love are 108 LOST Trivia Questions which even provides the soundtrack to listen to while you play, and LOST Characters by Musical Theme just because I love the music. Finally A History of Violins is one I love again because of the great music choices but also because there are so many tracks used.

6) Are there any quizzes you’ve made that didn’t get the attention you were hoping for?

I guess you wish that all the stuff you make gets attention but one I really enjoyed making was What’s This’ in Christmas Town? which I thought was pretty good. Another is Batman Characters (A – Z) which got a little attention but didn’t really go anywhere. I’m still glad I made it though and that a few people played it.

7) Who’s a user whose games you think deserves more attention?

One user I’ve noticed is Krypton, who has made a lot of superhero quizzes, and good ones at that. They seem to really know what they’re doing when they put their quizzes together and have a wide range of superheroes included. Another user who needs more attention is Extinctanimals22 who I think has the highest quizmaster score I’ve ever seen without a publish.
