This is part of the Sporcle blog’s long-running a series highlighting some of our hard-working curators. Curators are editors for a specific subcategory, and their diligent work finding great quizzes from their subcategories (and sometimes others) helps to shape the site. We asked our curators to complete an interview of sorts, and we’re sharing their responses here on the blog.
This next post is from Spacemaniac, curator for letter, actress, Family Guy, Image Quiz.
1) How did you first get involved with playing Sporcle?
One day in late 2010, I was in a mood that I just started to love MLB HoFer’s, so my older brother, gaverick91, challenged me to get 100% on Ben‘s quiz, I didn’t get 100 %, but I was instantly hooked. In May, 2011 I created an account, and in mid-August, 2012, I started using it actively.
2) What are your favorite published quizzes from your subcategory?
In Image Quiz there are the classics such as Famous Faces (Badly Drawn), and Games by Cupcake.
In Letter, of course, 3-Letter Body Parts.
Family Guy should be one of the first quizzes every Family Guy fan plays on Sporcle, and if I ever need a laugh Family Guy Film Parodies (along with the TV version) just cracks me up.
I’m Older Than My Parent is just a classic quiz, especially the way that not all of the celebrities have the same last name.
3) What are your favorite contributed quizzes from your subcategory?
Famous… With Mouth-Eyes was probably the freakiest quiz I’ve ever played. Every single Best Actress nominee EVER really tests your knowledge of Best Actress nominees! English Letters Close-Up was one quiz that I didn’t have high hopes for when going into it, but it turned out to be surprisingly fun and difficult. Family Guy: Wearable Colors Blitz is a really fast-thinking and incredibly fun game! (Actually, everything I said about all of these are under-statements.)
4) What are your favorite published quizzes from an entirely different category?
Miss Teen South Carolina’s 2007 Speech and “How I Met Your Mother” Theme Song just made me crack up!
And I felt so dumb after I saw the trick to Really Tough Math Challenge!
But, if you’re looking for a good logic puzzle that also tests outside knowledge, Country Trivia Logic Puzzle should do the trick!
5) What are your favorite contributed quizzes from an entirely different category?
Really?! There are so many amazing ones!
How to make a bad Sporcle quiz is a classic quiz which is hilarious!
“Born to Run” by The Boss is one of my favorite songs, so of course I loved “Born to Run” Lyrics!
Dr. Phil Life Lessons is just hilarious!
6) Are there any quizzes you’ve made that didn’t get the attention you were hoping for?
Lucky for me, most of my quizzes do well, but there are a few quizzes which I wish had done a little bit better, like Dr. Seuss Writing as LeSieg, currently at 3 plays, I think it should’ve been one of the quizzes made before public quiz creation was available.
Also, I worked a really long time on this word ladder, reading through the book a couple a times to make sure all the names were perfect!
7) Who’s a user whose games you think deserve more attention?
Three users who consistently produce excellent quizzes would be survivor, JoeBeta, and mrsmith.
I always go to JoeBeta‘s profile if I want to find a well-made music quiz, survivor the only contributor I’ve heard of who’s on the highest user created games leaderboard, and mrsmith creates excellent “outside-of-the-box” quizzes!
Cheers, @spacemaniac. The respect’s mutual!
