Zalkon2004

Starting today, the Sporcle blog is going to periodically highlight some of our hard-working curators. Curators are editors for a specific subcategory, and their diligent work finding great quizzes from their subcategories (and sometimes others) helps to shape the site. We asked our curators to complete an interview of sorts, and we’ll be sharing their responses here on the blog.

Today we start with a post from zalkon2004, who is the curator for the Actor and Movie Resume subcategories.

1) How did you first get involved with playing Sporcle?

It’s been a few years but I recall first visiting Sporcle through a link to a basketball quiz on Yahoo’s Ball Don’t Lie NBA blog back in 2008. Since I’m a hardcore lover of trivia , I wondered where this site had been all my life and why hadn’t I thought of it!

2) What are your favorite published quizzes from your subcategory?

In Movie Resume probably Leonardo DiCaprio Movies or Tom Cruise Movies. In Actor the classic Oscars Best Actor and That Movie Was Terrible and honorable mention to Nicolas Cage and His Face and Every Single Best Actor Nominee

3) What are your favorite contributed quizzes from your subcategory?

In Movie Resume there are many: Kate Beckinsale, Christopher Walken, Billy Crystal, Danny Devito, Kirsten Dunst, Jamie Lee Curtis.

In Actor Any Actor’s Movie is a good recent one, as well as Young Oscar Winners-and-Nominees. But there are many others including jimmers_205‘s ‘Every Single’ quizzes.

4) What are your favorite published quizzes from an entirely different category?

After playing over 9,000 unique quizzes instead of all my favorites, I’ll just post a few I like: I had the strangest sense of accomplishment after I finally got 100% on Street Suffixes, I also like DWTS Contestants, ’cause it’s my guilty pleasure…as well as all the classics (Periodic Table, Countries of the World, Flags and Capitals)

5) What are your favorite contributed quizzes from an entirely different category?
Any of darinh‘s Google Maps quizzes, Keep On WalkingLargest Metro Area per LatitudeA History of ViolinsWheaties Box Athletes and Largest Whale species

6) Are there any quizzes you’ve made that didn’t get the attention you were hoping for?

Well, of course, but I’ve been very lucky. I’ve had a bunch of published quizzes so I can’t really complain. I’m hopeful that my other Sports Illustrated cover quizzes get published at some point, as well as more of “Needs a Job” quizzes. I really like my Wrestler action figure quiz as well.

As far as games that don’t have many plays, they are niche quizzes so it’s understandable but I like Austin Powers charactersMade for TV Movies by Plot DescriptionCivil War Military OfficersEvery Starfleet Starship.

7) Who’s a user whose games you think deserves more attention?

sbme‘s impressive collection of audio quizzes, as Movie Resume curator I’ve noticed smac32 has a lot of pretty good Movie Resume quizzes, bluelicorice and joeflint82 have some great Star Trek games, _Check_Mate_ has some nice quizzes for animal aficionados. Obviously there are tons more, but this just off the top of my head!
