How many countries are in Europe? Europe is home to 47 countries, including a couple of countries whose territories are considered to be in both Europe and Asia.
Europe is very populous, but it is actually the second smallest continent in the world (behind Oceania). Despite being relatively small, it is technically home to the largest country in the world. Russia takes up about 40% of Europe’s total land area. Even though it is small(ish), Europe falls right behind Asia and Africa in terms of population. Keep in mind, Europe should not be confused with the European Union. Not all the countries of Europe are part of the European Union.
