Someone in France has been playing a few too many Call of Duty quizzes. As you may already know, the third installment of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series releases tonight, November 8th, at midnight. Due to the cult-rivaling popularity of the game, there are many who would love to get their hands on the game as soon as they can, and after the robbery yesterday, two individuals already have.
Two masked men stole a van housing six thousand copies of the video game in transit and since then copies of the game have sprung up on many auction sites around the internet. However this wasn’t your regular gunpoint robbery. The two masked men stopped the van by ramming into it with their car, then caused the occupants of the van to flee using tear gas. Opposition was further discouraged by the large tactical knives they were wielding. The heist went off without a hitch for the criminals, possibly due to extensive practice using the soon to be outdated Modern Warfare 2.
It is a bit of a rough start for Activision on this highly anticipated release, but the missing 6000 games will be naught but a hiccup in the torrential outflow of copies that is to come in the next few days. And if anyone in Activision has some extra time on their hands, be sure to be on the lookout for a knife-and-tear-gas-only “French Heist” map to appear in the coming days.
