We’re huge pop culture junkies here at Sporcle, and even though DVRs and great summer programming like Breaking Bad are the norm, it still hasn’t dampened our enthusiasm for the new fall TV season. There are just so many great shows premiering in the next month, that we knew we’d have to give you a little preview of the new fall season…Sporcle Style. Hit the “Read more” link to see what we’re most looking forward to, and be sure to leave a comment letting us know which shows you’re most excited to see.
Shows Returning in September
Glee is one of the most popular shows on TV and on Sporcle, and its season opener is on September 20th. We’ve published tons of amazing Glee trivia, and we’re excited to see what antics they bring to the new season. September 22nd brings one of the more anticipated nights in comedy with The Big Bang Theory, Community, Parks and Recreation and The Office all having their premieres. We’re also pretty excited about a couple of great comedies on FX: Archer and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia starting on September 15th. We’re big fans of these shows at Sporcle, and we definitely think you should check them out. FOX finally joins in on the fun and rolls out both The Simpsons and Family Guy on September 25th. This will be The Simpsons’ 23rd season on the air, and season 10 for Family Guy.
New Shows this Season
New shows to keep track of include 2 Broke Girls starring Kat Dennings on ABC, and New Girl on FOX which stars one of our favorites: Zooey Deschanel. Both ABC and NBC are hoping to coast on the fumes of Mad Men by coming out with their own versions of life in the ’60s with shows called Pan Am and The Playboy Club. Buffy the Vampire Slayer returns with the new show on the CW called Ringer. Speaking of Buffy, does anyone even know what Sarah Michelle Gellar has been doing the last eight years? Neither do we. Finally the show that intrigues us the most is FOX’s Terra Nova about folks who travel back in time to prehistoric Earth to save the human race. Despite the fact that it’s going to be pretty awkward when they run into each other later, the action and effects on this show look like it might be a pretty fun ride.
Shows that Didn’t Make It
Finally, we have to mention some of the great shows that didn’t quite make it to the new fall season. We can’t help but mention the passing of All My Children, which will be airing its last episode on September 23rd. The show was on the air for over forty years, and has a huge place in American pop culture, no matter your feelings on soap operas. Also ending this season were HBO shows Big Love and long-running favorite Entourage (we’re on team Lloyd, for the record). We also know there are lots of you that are going to miss Smallville and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Finally, an over-looked show we loved was the brilliant FX gem Terriers. It was great detective show, that never quite found an audience. There are always great shows like this every year, but hopefully it’ll get another chance in the future.
There are plenty of other great shows out there that we’re sure we forgot. If your favorite show is missing from the list, set us straight in our blog comments.
