So, Billings is a metropolitan area but not Columbus Ohio, which is closer to Chicago than New York? Too vague....

The name is very misleading. There is nothing "isolated" about New York. Interesting idea, but so much of the quiz comes down to just naming the largest metros.

Good quiz. It seemed straightforward enough to me. It's similar to topographic isolation: <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Topographic_isolation> I'm surprised Fairbanks isn't on the list, though, and also Nome or Bethel, Alaska.

I know I'm probably one of very few people that bother, but Unalaska, Juneau and Barrow are not metropolitan areas, they're micropolitan areas.

Columbus is not far from Cleveland and Cincinnati, both larger metros, so it didn't make the list. Zifyoip nailed the inspiration for the quiz; that's why the word "isolated" was used. Fairbanks is about 260ish miles from Anchorage, if you were wondering.

Dallas is closer than 300 miles from Houston, which is larger.

@springybawb: The metro area for Dallas-Ft. Worth is larger than Houston tough...Great Quiz! but I agree with Onno, I wouldn't consider those metropolitan areas.

Dededo, Guam as a bonus? It's 3801 miles from Honolulu.

Isn't Unalaska, Alaska an oxymoron?

Hamburger: St Louis is 304 miles away from Chicago, but only 250 miles away from Kansas City, another larger neighbor.

I like the idea for this quiz, but the inclusion of fairly small Alaskan cities doesn't seem right...

Denver isn't closer to Phoenix than to Albuquerque, but Albuquerque isn't larger than Denver.

Interesting quiz, but I never would have thought about Unalaska and Barrow as metropolitan areas.

The first 2 that came to mind for me were Anchorage and Honolulu... never thought to think of smaller Alaska towns!

According to the US Census Bureau, Juneau is merely a Micropolitan city, and Barrow and Unalaska are not even Micropolitan. I think that Barrow and Unalaska should be removed, and Juneau should be a bonus unless you specify that Micropolitan Areas count.
