The immigrants in Saudi Arabia and UAE are mostly laborers from India, Pakistan, etc.

I thought UAE only had 3 Million inhabitants, but apparently they have even more immigrants than that.

Funny how everyone outside of the USA hates the USA, yet people want to move to here...? Interesting...

Interested that there are fewer immigrants per head here in the UK than in Spain, Germany and about the same as in France. A certain section of the press would have you believe immigrants are some kind of ruling majority here.

Just a couple things about the quiz itself: Please require USA instead of just US as is the Sporcle custom. Also, I'd like to see clarification in the title or instructions regarding the number of immigrants. It stands to reason that the number given is the total number of immigrants present for a given year (which one?) but that was not immediately clear. At first I thought they represented immigration numbers during a certain period but of course they would be way too high for that.

I'm impressed that Canada has more immigrants than the UK. Proportionally, sure, but raw numbers too. This really is a country built on immigration (which I love, BTW).

@rmo134 - maybe it was the land of opportunity in the past, but noting unique about that today. Japan, Germany, Spain, Australia and New Zealand are all examples of great countries. USA is no more land of opportunity than those countries. Also don't understand how you can claim that USA is BY FAR the most tolerable of immigrants, sounds like you've got a pair on if you ask me. USA is a great country, no doubt, but let's take the glasses off and see that there are other great countries as well.

I know plenty of Canadians who live in China. It doesn't mean they dislike Canada, but had opportunities to live and work in China and took them. I can't say I blame them. I love Canada, and it will always be my home, but if I have a chance to experience a completely different culture first hand, I'll probably take it. It seems strange, and a little shortsighted, for people to sit at home criticizing countries they have probably never been to and know nothing about.

This is the lowest score I've ever gotten out of over 400 Sporcle quizzes that I took seriously! 12th/%? There are really that many people who knew every single one of these? Well, aside from the usual cheaters who play quizzes 3 times I mean. Like it gives them some inner happiness to see their percentile go up by cheating.

@Blaise ... The idea that "everyone hates the USA" is a completely false stereotype perpetuated by paranoid isolationists. Have you ever traveled abroad? From my experience, people LOVE Americans. Believe it or not our assorted freedoms, our pop culture, etc., are interesting to other countries. Why do you think so many people in foreign countries buy Levi's and Coke? As long as you don't act like a d-bag, people will like you.

@chriskotx: I think for Russia and Ukraine, a significant percentage is the repatriation of ethnic Russians and Ukrainians from other parts of the former soviet Union. India might include Tamils who fled Sri Lanka during the civil war as well as continued migration from Pakistan post-partition. The reverse applies to Pakistan as well as migration from Afghanistan. Immigration doesn't have to come from far away, and there may be local reasons for that immigration, which make sense locally but not globally.

@christkox: It's difficult to find foreign-born population composition statistics for India, but I'm pretty sure the vast majority of those are immigrants from Bangladesh. Many are made refugees by natural disasters, many more are in search of jobs. Bangladesh's population density is ridiculously high. Many also migrate to India temporarily as a gateway to the Gulf or the West. India also has regional migrant populations from Nepal, China (the Tibetan refugees), and Afghanistan, as well as Tamils from Sri Lanka as gowhere pointed out. Even with these huge immigrant figures, India is still a net migrant source rather than destination.

I would also like to point out that Russia gets a significant influx of migrant labor from Central Asia, which also boosts its numbers. India and China also get a lot of temporary and cross-border migration from neighboring countries with economies that aren't expanding as quickly. China is also getting some ethnic Chinese from Southeast Asia moving back in as the economy grows.
