There is a story told here in Pittsburgh that goes like this: In 1890 the United States Board on Geographic Names decreed that all cities in the U.S. whose names ended in -burgh would henceforth be spelled -burg. So the name of Pittsburgh officially became Pittsburg, to the outrage of many of the city's residents. Finally, in 1911, the Board relented and allowed Pittsburgh to restore its final H. The story usually concludes with the claim that this is the reason Pittsburgh is the only city in the United States whose name ends in -burgh (instead of -burg). This is all well and good, except for the fact that it's wrong, as this quiz shows.

@zifyoip, actually, almost all of the burghs on this quiz are not cities. The only
cities
ending in burgh are Newburgh, NY, Pittsburgh, PA, and Plattsburgh, NY. So, Pittsburgh, PA is almost the only city ending in burgh.
