I never knew that's how you spelled that family's name. And in the interest of nitpicking, I'm not sure #8 is a bear.

Sorry about the duplicate comments above. Apparently, I'm not smarter than the average bear.

@ready2play: well, for a while zoologists thought that pandas weren’t actually closely related to bears, so I guess that’s what horseydeucey was thinking of? But apparently now they’re pretty sure pandas are a kind of bear after all, so… uh, go Po?

You pegged it Pit_trout. I was under that impression, and the fact that the actual name of the animal is Giant Panda. Looks like I'm 100% wrong on it not being a bear.

In fairness, zoologists go back and forth on the "are giant pandas bears?" question a lot (at least by my casual observation), along with "are red pandas and giant pandas related?", "are red pandas related to raccoons?", and so forth. Last I looked into it, they were actually considering the possibility that they are all related to some degree, with raccoons being distantly connected to bears. I think when there's such a high degree of confusion, it's acceptable to go with the common vernacular and treat the giant panda as a bear for the sake of an entertainment Sporcle quiz.

I've generally considered bears as anything that currently resides in the Ursidae family. While I cannot pretend that I went through the trouble to look prior to posting this quiz, the Giant Panda is in fact within this family, so Po will stay. Thanks for the feedback everybody!
