But for the Monaco date, I still don't think that "permanently securing their holding" is really equivalent to independence, it's really just another shift in dynasty (with suddenly three joint rulers in fact). 17 years after your date, Monaco is invaded and occupied by the Milanese, as will happen later again with Savoy, France, Spain,... The same dynasty rules since before your date, and Monaco isn't truly autonomous the whole time. Arguably Malta, Liechtenstein and Andorra are in the same situation at some point, e.g. Malta is a stable entity starting in 1266, gets independence 1530 but loses both statuses several times; or Liechtenstein becomes a sovereign entity in 1806 (in your source - not the date you have in the quiz) but only independent in 1866. |
