it was good... it was good... but too easy!
Dec 17th, 2010 at 02:24 GMT
I won my state's geography bee. They never asked such simple questions.
Dec 17th, 2010 at 02:50 GMT
Good idea, but it's easy, and the constant scrolling back down after you answered the question to see the next question is annoying.
Dec 17th, 2010 at 05:35 GMT
Not a bad concept, but the questions are just way too easy.
Dec 17th, 2010 at 06:49 GMT
cant we just enter the name of the state rather than the silly number?
Dec 17th, 2010 at 07:07 GMT
I would suggest saying which state is closeR to the Tropic of Cancer, not which state is "close", since neither of the answers is particularly close. To BostonPatriots, that would not work since a state can be wrong for one question but right for another. For instance, if you said TN was more likely to experience a hurricane than NC, you would be wrong and the quiz should end, but then what would happen later on the question about longitude, since entering TN would end the quiz? A workaround to this problem would be to tell the user to enter something like "1-New York" or "2-Arizona" depending on the question number, though it is probably not worth the quiz creator's time to change it.

Manitopiaaa: As another state geography bee winner, I believe that these are questions from the classroom/school levels of the Geography Bee.
Dec 17th, 2010 at 14:31 GMT
Type 'NO' to chastise BS quiz formats like this.
Dec 17th, 2010 at 16:12 GMT
yeah, i won my school geography bee and the questions weren't that easy.
Dec 17th, 2010 at 17:41 GMT
That was surprisingly easy
Dec 17th, 2010 at 18:38 GMT
I have been to the state finals of the geography bee. the school's preliminary rounds have questions like this but they do get harder. I have heard these questions in books too so they have been used.
Dec 17th, 2010 at 19:19 GMT
State finals of the GeoBee here as well. And seriously, just states? I was expecting countries too, mate.
Dec 17th, 2010 at 21:38 GMT
Just wanted to echo some other comments... the questions were really easy (with more difficult ones thrown in randomly) and it's SO long. The scrolling is annoying.
Dec 17th, 2010 at 21:46 GMT
Questions:easy, scrolling: hard.
Dec 17th, 2010 at 23:38 GMT
I'd almost recommend doing this in the hated format. I know people probably wont like this suggestion, but this kind of quiz is what that format's made for
Dec 18th, 2010 at 04:05 GMT
Oh my gosh were these questions easy.
Dec 18th, 2010 at 04:12 GMT
Too long. The scrolling was annoying.
Dec 18th, 2010 at 04:58 GMT
I, like many people who have commented, have also been to the state finals, twice. I do agree that these questions were too easy. Especially in state, most, if not all, of the questions were more difficult. I love the idea though. A quick excercise in mental acuity.
Dec 18th, 2010 at 06:50 GMT
Well it looks like I'm yet another State-level competitor (twice, actually). But I remember questions like these are from the classroom level bee. They'd NEVER ask us something like this at the state level, maybe not even a school level. So do I think they're easy? yes. But I think the numbers need to go, and do away with the whole 0/1 thing. Make it a legit quiz, and see how far people can go. I'm interested to see how many get to the last one. The number is going to be surprisingly low.
Dec 18th, 2010 at 14:31 GMT
wow not the best quiz i've eva taken
Dec 18th, 2010 at 16:41 GMT
If I'm the winner, how come it says 'so close'?
Dec 18th, 2010 at 19:47 GMT
How far does it go? I got to the third question on Part 3, which I was pretty happy with as a Brit.
Dec 18th, 2010 at 20:06 GMT
Yet another state finalist who found this easy, but who says these quizzes are supposed to be challenging to everyone? Conforming to the tastes of geography bee finalists wouldn't leave much for beginners. It'd be nice if, in addition to rating quizzes for overall quality, we could also rate them for difficulty. That way, if I saw a geography quiz with a 1.5 difficulty rating, I'd know to ignore it, but if it's well-done it could still have a high quality rating.
Dec 18th, 2010 at 21:06 GMT
little bit easy but still fun
Dec 18th, 2010 at 21:11 GMT
The reason why they are easy is beacause they are rounds 1-4 0f the classroom (maybe school) geography bee.
Dec 18th, 2010 at 21:43 GMT
you need to go beyond the classroom level questions
Dec 18th, 2010 at 21:54 GMT
You could possibly minimize the scrolling by putting each section in a separate column. Type "GO" to begin the first column, then the end of each section gives you the password to the next column.
Dec 19th, 2010 at 03:33 GMT
Straight out of the Geo-Bee competition from 5th grade. Verbatim, and the same order of questions.
Dec 19th, 2010 at 15:23 GMT
Liked it but was expecting and hoping countries aswell.
Dec 19th, 2010 at 16:26 GMT
questions were easy, but the scrolling was very time-consuming. Could you redesign to only show the current section? Once one is past it, no need to keep it displayed, which only increases the amount of scrolling necessary. Otherwise, I enjoyed it, but many of the questions were realy, really, obviously easy.
Dec 20th, 2010 at 05:25 GMT
Way too easy, and the scrolling gets very annoying.
Dec 21st, 2010 at 01:11 GMT
It freaking sucks
Dec 21st, 2010 at 12:21 GMT
I got to the tenth question of the final section before time ran out. I'd like to finish, but it isn't worth the time doing all the scrolling and answering simple questions.
Dec 21st, 2010 at 21:15 GMT
The scrolling back and forth makes this quiz unbearable and unpublishable. The questions would be good for my 7 year old to learn some geography, though.
Dec 22nd, 2010 at 15:06 GMT
12-time state geography champ here. Or maybe it was county, or possibly school district; I'm not so good with political subdivisions and whatnot. I don't have a comment on the quiz; I just wanted to toot my own horn.
Dec 25th, 2010 at 15:35 GMT
Damn it blove121, you beat me to the tongue in cheek opportunity! Good work by you.
Dec 25th, 2010 at 23:57 GMT
Oh, I get it...if you pick the wrong answer, it says you got the answer. Problem is, when you click "see the most missed", it doesn't show any real statistics because bonus answers don't count. So technically, this thing can't even record statistics. It was a good try, though.
Dec 29th, 2010 at 02:28 GMT
VERY EASY....BUT AGREE THAT HAVING TO MOVE UP AND DOWN TOOK TOO MUCH TIME AND COULDN'T FINISH.WISH THERE WAS A WAY TO COMPACT IT.
Feb 22nd, 2012 at 13:33 GMT
Entertaining and (kind of) educational quiz. Some of the questions were a giveaway though, because they contained too much information (maybe leave out things like "it lies within a state which is east of....." A handful of questions caught me out though, and it is annoying having to start all over again just because I got one question wrong, and that is the problem with these "forced order" quizzes. Also annoying is not knowing how many questions there are to answer until the game is over. Therefore, do I "hurry" the game for fear of running out of time, or what?
