@zalkon2004: You do realize, of course, that some of these are not exactly the pictures the players were expecting when they first clicked this game, right? I mean, professional boxers in swim trunks is not exactly the kind of swimwear Sports Illustrated is known for... ;)

@napb True, but during the photoshoot Larry Bird took one look at the Speedo and walked off so they just let him wear his warm-ups. Keith Hernandez on the other hand had to be talked into wearing his uniform.

Best quiz ever. My mom bought me an SI subscription in the 1980s. Remember many of the covers.

A great quiz...I might suggest shaving the time just a bit, however it is a great game either way. Loved it!

@Aaron Kashtan - When I created the quiz these were all made acceptable answers, keep in mind Sporcle only allows so many alternates -
USA Hockey/US Hockey/Team USA/Team USA Hockey/1980 USA Olympic Hockey/1980 Hockey Team/1980 Team USA/USA Ice Hockey/United States Hockey/United States Olympic Hockey/1980 United States Olympic Hockey/Olympic Hockey Team/1980 USA Hockey
If you have any better suggestions to replace a current term I'm willing to listen. I don't really want to remove it cause it's a big part of early 80's sports but I have replacements.

I couldn't get the tennis player in the lower right corner. Borg? No. Edberg? No. Becker? No. Dang, who is that guy.....

Can we have Radio Times covers of the 60's please. These 25 with one exception are North Americans or play a big four sport. Not very global - my European blood is boiling

Make your own quiz, Eurotrash. ;) How hot is "boiling" for European blood, btw? A scorching 24, 25 degrees Celsius?

I am so angry that this quiz about the covers of a US magazine does not have enough European athletes on it. Can you please alter this quiz so that it covers a completely different genre of material?

some of these names and faces bring back such fond memories. how young they all look! remember hanging out with friends in a club on the upper east side of manhattan one night in the latter part of 1986, and in walks gary carter, keith hernandez and lenny dykstra. they bought me and my friends drinks, and we had a fantastic time talking about everything BUT baseball. this quiz just brought back that night. gary was a complete gentleman. dykstra was a player. keith was quiet and more of an observer. then i got married and had kids

33/35 -- Just missed Bobby Knight (not used to seeing him without white hair) and Steffi Graf (thought it was a dude). tndawg - Not a lot of people recognized the SMU uni and made the connection. If he was in a Cowboys or Vikings uni, however...

Holy boxers Batman. Not that I'm complaining...I got all 5...but missed the two not so interesting NFL commentators pictured above. I knew I knew Collinsworth's goofy smile...just couldn't place it looking so young.

Had all but one pretty quickly... I was looking at his pic, could SWEAR I saw "Hagler" written on the magazine, and voila! There is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON I should know "Marvin Hagler" by picture. All I know about him- he's black and he's a boxer and he boxed in the 80s and early 90s. Haha, maybe I saw "Baddest" as "Hagler" quickly? Maybe the short A sound resonated in my head? I'll never ever know....

The first poster has been bashed plenty, and deservedly so. No apology yet? Some f'n nerve! Haha, mrgenova- good point. A North American magazine will indeed tend to show North American athletes on it. No one's mentioned anything about that silly "60s" remark. I'd IMAGINE that the vast majority of quiz-takers were born or grew up in hte 80s for nostalgia-sake. If we're trying to find European sporting from the 60s, maybe a SPORCLE.COM quiz about SPORTS ILLUSTRATED isn't the place to find it....
