| Yeah, I definitely love lifespan quizzes because they allow you to use so many different avenues of knowledge. For the very recent ones - Crichton and Salinger - I remembered news reports. I knew Shakespeare's year of death only for the amazing coincidence that he and Cervantes are popularly known to have died on the same day (although Cervantes actually died the day before, it's still interesting)! As the creator said, ones who died young - Plath and Hemingway from suicide, Poe from disease - can be judged if you have an idea of how old they were when they died. If you just saw Les Miserables in theaters, you know its events took place in 1830s France, so it's a decent assumption that Hugo was at least a teenager in the 1830s and older when he wrote the novel, thus narrowing his choices down to a couple possibilities.
tl;dr: I really liked this quiz! |
